Lineage
The speculative Yoakum line of the TN->IL->AL->MO->CA family (Isaac, Ike, Ray, Toby) shows the direct line from the well researched descendants of Mathias Yoakum to our generation. This link had been lost somewhere in the 7th generation, the early 1800's. Traditional sources, such as H. C. Smith and George Shryock loose our line at Valentine b.1785 and son Issac b.1812. It was difficult to follow Valentine and Isaac around the VA, KY, TN, AL, and MO locales they settled. They moved often and our family was given little or no information from Isaac I about his father and mother, his father died early and his mother remarried twice.
The use of the same names in successive generations, the constant push to settle new land, and the many, many Yoakum families to review, has left our line relatively unexplored. Researchers have tended to follow the 'location consistant' members of the family and delegate our Isaac, b. 1812, to 'Missing Links' or some unknown 'William Isaac' possibly Jesse's son who came out of TN via AL and settled in Ray Co. MO. Isaac's trail of census listings, court appearances and land transactions through the mid's 1800's however tend to support some new information made available by researchers this year - interpreting Isaac's father to be Valentine "Felty" Yoakum, born 1785, died 1828 in Roane Co. TN. Felty was married to Charlotte Reynolds and was the son of George I b.15 Jan 1752.
With this link comes the completion of our Yoakum lineage from 'FOB' to 'American Pie' - close to 400 years of expressing the great American pioneer spirit and the passionate will to survive and prosper.
